IMPORTANT – 2010 Tryout Info
Pennsbury Boys’ Lacrosse Tryout Information
Where do we meet for tryouts?
Varsity candidates will attend tryouts before school from 5:45 – 6:50 AM and again after school from 2:45 – 4:50 PM. Morning sessions for Varsity tryouts begin promptly at 5:45 AM in the PHS West A Gym. The building is opened at 5:30 AM. JV and Varsity candidates should go directly to the field house after school on Monday March 8th to prepare for practice. The Varsity captains will be there to organize and get everyone out to the field at 2:45 PM. BE ON TIME FOR ALL PRACTICES.
Do I need a physical?
All players must have a physical before they can tryout for the team. 10th – 12th graders that have already received a physical for another sport this school year you must hand in Section 5 and/or Section 6 of the PIAA form. If you are a ninth grade that has already played a sport this school year you must hand in Section 5 or section 6 and must see Mr. Synder over at West in room B222 or your other coaches in order to get your original physical form from them and turn them in to Coach.
What forms need to be completed?
Every player must have a PIAA Physical, Eligibility Form and Parent Permission Form.
You can Download the Forms from the website and print your own copies http://www.pennsbury.k12.pa.us/pennsbury/PHS/_zumu_sidebar/Athletics/Forms/. All forms should be handed in no later then Thursday March 4th. Hand in all your paperwork to Coach Zwick at PHS East in Room 234 or Mrs. Hynoski at PHS West in F106.
What equipment do I need?
All players must supply their own equipment for tryouts. If you are in need of some equipment, please contact the coaches ahead of time to arrange to borrow some gear for tryouts. Varsity players should all have short sticks for the gym sessions. You must have a dark/white reversible for tryouts as well. Let us know if you need one to borrow for tryouts. Full equipment is required at all tryout sessions.
Where do I store my equipment?
We use the Field House locker room on the PHS campus. We will have the field house open on Tuesday March 2nd and Wednesday March 3 from 2:45 – 4:00 PM so you can drop off your equipment and lock it up. You must bring your own lock. Players who are trying out for Varsity will need their equipment for the morning sessions. We will have a location for you to store your equipment during the day. You will then be able to pick it up after school for the afternoon practice.
What if there is bad weather?
Unless our field and all parking lots are covered by snow, plan to go outside. You should dress warmly in layers so that you stay warm. You are permitted to wear sweatpants, just don’t wear shorts over your sweats because that is simply unacceptable. Always have sneakers and cleats with you in case we need to go on the parking lot. If the weather is so bad that we cannot go outside for practice, we will have practice from at PHS West in the B Gym in the evening. In case of inclement weather you should check our website and listen to the announcements in school.
Who can tryout for Varsity?
All players who let Coach Zwick know they are interested in trying out for Varsity are welcome to attend the Varsity tryout sessions. You MUST make all morning and afternoon practices to tryout for Varsity. Email KZwick@pennsbury.k12.pa.com if you are trying out for Varsity. It is assumed that all Juniors and Seniors are trying out for Varsity so only underclassmen need to RSVP.
When are the rosters announced?
The final JV and Varsity rosters will be announced by practice on Monday March 15th
unless weather disrupts our tryouts. You should plan to get a ride home that day since
we will meet with all players after practice and this can take some extra time.
What happens if I tryout for Varsity and don’t make it?
You are still going to be considered for JV if you do not make the Varsity team.
Can Juniors play JV?
Yes, but preference will be given to Freshmen and Sophomores with the same abilities.
What can I expect at tryouts?
All players trying out for JV and Varsity will be assessed on several tasks. We will take all of the tasks into account when deciding who will be on the roster. We will run many different drills to test your stick skills as well as your offensive and defensive abilities. All players will also be evaluated in game situations.
